About
I’m Marc Stimpson, a furniture maker who finds inspiration in nature and in God’s creation. I grew up working alongside my father in the trades, where I learned the value of hard work, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. In 2011, I turned that foundation into my own business, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect both timeless design and the beauty of the natural world.
Beyond the workshop, I’m a husband to an amazing wife, a talented photographer, and a proud father of two. Together, we make our home in a quiet valley in New England — a place that continues to shape my work with its landscapes, seasons, and sense of community.
Life on our property is full and lively. We care for a flock of twelve chickens, three spirited goats, and our loyal poodle, Winston. A large garden rounds out our homestead, giving us a deeper connection to the land and a rhythm to the seasons. These daily experiences with animals, growth, and the cycles of nature constantly influence both my outlook and my craft.
How the wood gets here
Every piece I build starts with a tree. I source slabs from local hardwood — walnut, cherry, white oak, maple, and butternut — sustainably harvested and kiln-dried in my own shop. I see every board from log to living room. When a slab has character — a knot, a void, a live edge — I let the wood speak, working with what's there rather than against it.
I also travel for wood. Some of the most striking pieces I've made come from slabs I went looking for in person: Pacific Northwest myrtle, claro walnut from California, acacia monkey pod from further afield. When the right piece exists, it's worth the trip.
What “handcrafted” means in my shop
It means one person built your table. The same person who picked the slab, ran it through the planer, shaped the live edge, joined the base, and rubbed in the hard-wax oil finish. There's no factory floor, no assembly line, no shortcuts — just careful work, one piece at a time.
That's also why lead times run 8–12 weeks. I'm one person, and I finish a piece when it's right.
Heirloom isn't a marketing word
Solid hardwood furniture, made well, doesn't get thrown out. The table I'm building right now will outlast me. Maybe your kids will eat off it. Maybe theirs will, too. That's the bar I work to.
Hard-wax oil finishes can be refreshed at home in thirty minutes. Joints I cut hold for generations. Wood I select dries straight and stays straight. The whole thing is designed to last decades — not seasons.
